Mobile Microgrid Work Vehicles are a Microcosm of Larger Systems
The development of these work vehicles offered hands-on, experiential learning in low voltage DC, Solar charging systems, mobile AC power, and upcycling of older campus vehicles. Projects and benefits included:
Transition to self-charging vehicles.
Solar Charging systems for Electric Tractors used in garden and campus groundskeeping operations.
Upcycled vehicles have lower maintenance batteries, are quieter and cleaner, and make creative use of resources.
The spinoffs from these UNCA-Asheville and Warren Wilson College student projects, led by CSMG, have provided fleet enhancements to Christmount Assembly, Givens Highland Farms, and Cherokee Boys Club and Cherokee Career Technology Education students.
